Heres the completed sled. Not a total restoration but a very detailed servicing/rebuild. Never touched the track or suspension, other than checking bolt tightness. The motor blew on the last two owners, about six reasons why. Crank was bent 3 thou, now its 1 1/2 thou after i straightened it. Seals were a bit hard, two types of hardened gasket goo was on the intake manifolds, the pilot jets were 30, supposed to be 35, mains were 220, could be up to 320 so i put in 290s. Rubber orings were shot in the carbs, replaced the adjustable float bowls with normal float bowl and serviced clutches and chaincase. New needles/seats and fuel pump, tank cleaned and new checkvalve. Timing was advanced a bit, brought it back to the two punch marks.
Boys this sled goes like no 340 should. The faster you go the better it feels. Had her out on some groomed trails, about 28 or 30 miles and what a blast. Close to one of my best rides ever. I will be so bold as to say it does about 80mph, but i want to gps it before i yap too much! I held it wide open many times, sometimes for close to ten seconds and it survived with just premium and lots of cylinder head checks with my hand. Right cyl runs alot hotter than the left. note the exciter at the bear creek hilton, not the only old sled running!
